In 1965 there were around three tv channels including; BBC1, BBC2, ITV
ITV started out in 1955, it was commercial
Channel 3 services, Channel 4, Channel 4, S4C and the BBC have to all follow the PSB remit
Ofcom regulates uk tv today
In the 1960s TV was regulated by

Theory: The Active Audience
Debate on wether an audience is active or passive
A Passive audience accepts and believes everything a media text tells them.
An Active audience will interact with a media text and make their own decisions about wether to believe it or not. They question it.
audience ratings are measured by the BARB, broadcasters audience research board.

- it ran from 1961 to 1969 and the first episode 'hot snow' aired on 7th jan 1961
- 6 season were made
- the last episode aired on the 21st april 1969
- $2mil was the budget of season 4/ $56,000 per episode
- their target audience was mainstream adult
