L/O. to research the process, companies and regulators behind the film industry.

NO.1  Find out the process behind how a film is produced, distributed, marketed and exhibited. Who does what and in what order?

To produce a film you need a film producer who is tasked with making sure the film

is delivered on time and within the budget, and has the final say on creative decisions.

A film can be exhibited directly to the public either through a movie theater or television

You can create social media or websites to spread the word about your film.

And then get dvds made or publish in movie theaters or on big platforms like Netflix.

The lego movie targets a family audience. Mainly a young audience of children

HOW THE MOVIE APPEALS TO THE AUDIENCE

  • the movie widely appeals to young kids who play with lego because obviously it is already something they like and enjoy. They are young and the film is very colourful and cheerful.
  • the movie is also good for parents that played with lego as kids because i could bring back memories and be a nice thing to watch with your kid. its really a family friendly film.
  • its good for young adults for the same reasons, its fun and enjoyable and family friendly.
  • The lego movie appeals to both genders because it doesn't have a certain theme in that category.
EVALUATE THE ADVANTAGES AND THE DISADVANTAGES OF THE INTERTEXTUAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE MATRIX AND THE LEGO MOVIE

THE MATRIX VS THE LEGO MOVIE
 THE ADVANTAGES:
The theme and messages in the lego movie are the same as the matrix, both the films are based apon a fake reality and the main charicter (emmet/neo) finding out the truth about the real worth or coming to realisation.
the bad guy ( lord buissness/ the computers) taking controll and wanting everything to be the way they have it.
both films help eachother by making you like one film anf then going to see the other one.. making warner bros more money.

THE DISADVANTAGES:
The target audience of the matrix is definitely older as it is more complicated and mature.

integration

The lego movie costs about $60 million to make
a common theme is a brand will create useful or entertaining content targeted towards a selected/ targeted audience. As a product lego is for kids so the challenge was to make a film that suited children and also adults. they used actors from 21 jump street and cloudy with a chance of meatballs to give it a funny twist. writers known for writing adult comics.

The lego movie takes you through the motions. It has an emotive story line that explores the meaning of love, partnership and humanity, The lego movie does what it needs to do. It offers something for everyone. Makes it all about you

"the difference between those who create and those who build, the difference between those who lead and who follow, and the difference between those who choose to be themselves or a part of something bigger."

How The Lego Movie Marketing exploits a range of platforms.

The Lego Movie uses common marketing techniques such as posters and trailers but they did a lot more then this. Because the film was based on a brand that is extremely popular through out kids and even adults that used to play with lego, it was already going to be a bit hit because both the brands were promoting each other, lego a huge brand promoting warner bros and warner bros a widely known film production company ,also just as big but maybe not as well known with kids, promoting lego.
This is already a major plus when it comes to marketing but they didn't just stop here!
Lego released little sets of the worlds i the films and all the characters as mini figures, stationary was released to be used in school and very popular among young kids even teenagers and young adults.
Warner brothers released a video game which would obviously be a huge success with young teenagers etc.. and they released posters and a new character poster each week. It was released into cinemas and onto DVD which makes it easy for the second film to be a major success. All together so much merch was released and the film was hyped up so much that the film was a huge success with marketing and therefore was very popular, warner bro and lego did everything right!!

2nd november 2020

how the lego movie advertised on tv..
they had to pay a lot of money for ads on tv and they had to make sure it was at peak time.
they recreated 4 already existing well known ads but in lego doing this is good because the ads aren't going to be restricted and they advertise both products.
sunday, 7.27pm,5 days before movie launched.

british heart foundation
confused.com
BT infinity
premier inn

nearly 6 million people saw the ad break live on TV , however , an additional 1.1 million people went on youtube in one week to view it.
the movie was realised in half term which means all teenagers and kids would've been off school

How did the Lego Movie break boundaries with branded marketing

The lego movie payed to have ads put on TV which were at the perfect time, the peak time, 7-9 as it was suitable for both adults, young adults, teens and kids. They took already existing ads and recreated them in lego, this is genius because these ads were already quite popular and it put a fun twist on them, it was promoting both the lego movie and the ad that it was originally meant to be, and the ad was already in the guide lines so they didn't have to worry about it being restricted.

The ad breaks were also perfectly timed as they were released 2 weeks before the movie premiered in cinemas which meant when the ads blew up and get really popular people would want to see the movie straight away. Also when they released the ads they also released the full things on youtube so people could share it and this made the lego movie really popular because everyone knew about it! 6 million people saw the ad breaks live and then an additional 1.1 million viewed it on youtube, they did everything perfectly timed and when the ads blew up the movie was instantly premiering meaning they made loads of money and overall it was extremely popular.

THE LEGO MOVIE: POSTER CAMPAIN

                                            GENRE

  • codes and conventions typical features that symbolise a genre, e.g, sci-fi films are usually about space.
  • hybrid: when a film mixes elements of different genres
  • intertextuality:  when the one text references another, e.g, the used of batman in the lego movie
  • iconography:  the visual elements, like props, to help symbolise the particular genre

QUESTION

Explain how the lego movie theatrical poster is constructed to appeal to its target audience.

The lego movie theatrical poster is constructed by the genre of the film to appeal to its target audience while promoting the brand and lego movie and giving information about the film. The overall genres are action adventure, romance, sci-fi and just about all of these appeal to both a young target audience and a slightly older target audience. they introduce elements of the film and the genres by the poster, they use iconography to show action adventure through the flying helicopters and the lego minifigures running away from an explosion. it shows the main characters and connotes action adventure from their facial expressions and the explosion, which also draws your eyes to the poster, it pops out.
the use intertextuality by showing batman, green lantern, super woman, super man on the poster which also shows its an action adventure and appeals to younger people and even older people that love marvel, dc etc..
They widen the target audience a lot by adding in the sci-fi feature to the poster, the hovering cop car is very sci-fi and just general codes and conventions of the hybrid film. the buildings add to the sci-fi genre by the very blue modern look and makes this poster very good for all types of people and a very big target audience.

GENDER

patriarchy society

not just about the film, the whole campaign, give examples, different sources

EMMET: how are men represented in the lego movie?

Emmet is represented as a normal construction worker, a very 'manly' job as it is heavy lifting and just seen as more of a man stereotype, after wild style meets him he is represented as the hero of the film and the guy that will save everything "the special one"?
He is the character that saves wild style as well so the whole city which is very stereotypical and can be seen as saving the 'damsel in destress' and a very patriarchy film , however they challenge this by wild style being a very dominant character. In the character poster he is represented as a normal, stereotypical male, in builder uniform, no makeup or eyelashes, short hair, blue background.

WILD STYLE: how is she represented in the lego movie?

She is saved by emmet like the stereotypical dansel in destress, she has long hair in a pony tail, these all show that she is a stereotypical girl however these are portrayed by her other features that are not stereotypically presented to female characters. She is a dominant character and helps emmet a lot not to mention she saves his life multiple times and helps him become a master builder. She is seen to be the hero in the beginning of the film but emmet ends up saving everyone. on the character poster she is wearing pink and her overall features show that she is passive and overall female, she has freckles, eyelashes, makeup, these are all stereotypical features that  represents her in a very much patriarchy way as a female.

How is age represented in the character posters?

on certain posters like lord businesses and  vitruvius they have wrinkles and in  vitruvius he has white hair and a long beard. The younger characters like emmet, wild style and benny have no wrinkles and even wild style has coloured hair that can show her youth.
