Research.. who publishes
I’m confused on what to do with this?
Bauer media- research
They own around 600 magazines with over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations
It produces two uk music magazines called Q? And kerrang!? They diversified the brand mojo by using and publishing many different types of magazines and having a range of different media products as well as radio stations and tv channels.they own many different media companies such as:
- TV listings titles.
- Music publications.
- Kerrang!
- Other publications.
- Rebel Wilson v Bauer Media Group.
- U.S. magazines and special interest publications.
-wiki
Bauer media group is a diverse media conglomerate because they own many different media companies all grouped into one face company with many different media benefactors such as radio stations tv channels magazines etc.., they are massive in the media world because they own so much and because of how many companies they have a grouped together they are a conglomerate which is a massive benefit when it comes to owning all of this stuff and publishing so much.
Which agency’s regulate magazines and newspapers?
Independent press standards organisation (IPSO)
and press complaints commission? (PCC)
Bauer media uses IPSO??
Magazines receive revenue from the aids in the paper, if they do a collaboration with a brand or person maybe an influencer, obviously from the money they get from people buying the magazines.
I think there has been as dramatic fall in print magazines over the last ten years because technology is evolving and most things are online now you can read books online listen to the radio or a podcast, so there is kinda no point in picking up a magazine and reading it if you have a phone.
As well as the reduce in plastic production because of the environment and being eco friendly also recycling, some magazines include plastic toys and those are wrapped in plastic so that could be a factor in why it has reduced?
Quick test like thing?
Who owns mojo magazine?
Bauer media
Who regulates mojo magazine?
Bauer?
How many British magazines are globalised?

Give two ways a magazine can gain revenue?

lesson 2. 14 January 2021
Pop, country and rock
Music genres:
Pop rock and rap
Pop stars are typically very bright colourful, pop reminds me of like 80s vibes and the music is very up beat and bouncy. The themes they sing about are usually having fun and growing up it seems to be music that targets teens and it fun pop is usually very popular.
Rock musicians are usually quite darker, dark clothes makeup eyeliner crazy hair styles. It’s more like rock and roll and it does relate to pop but in the more lower base harder beat. The themes are usually drugs heartbreak kinda of depressing stuff but can also be fun and more uplifting stuff to jam to such a romance and growing up, I think rock and roll more targets teens and young adults?
Rap is very fast it’s a way of expressing life issues or anything else maybe heart break drugs or it could be something fun or sexual. Rappers do tend to be on the darker side with the lyrics but can still be fun the target audience is teens and young adults
Artist one: rap
Because he has dark skin and tattoos along with jewellery which tends to be the theme with a lot of rappers
Oprah? Because of the way she is holding her hands and how she has her mouth open as well as her hair style and what she is wearing
Rock and roll because of the tattoos and black jackets
MUSIC MAGAZINES
L.o. To explore the terminology and genres of popular music magazines
Rock and roll, rap and pop?
Starter:
Front cover of a magazine and label it
Terminology: definitions
Typography: the style and appearance of a printed matter
Layout:how something is arranged/ how images are arranged
Lexis :the total stock of words in a language?
Colour palette: an arrangement or layout of colours, all the colours you want to use or are being used?
Mise-en-scene- everything on set
Terminology for different magazine covers
Pop- bright colour pallet pinks and blues and very crowded layout, the mise-en-scene is a group of people wearing colourful outfits
LESSON 4?
genre and target audience
COVER ANALYSIS ~ lesson 7 + 8
The main image is of a celebrity in a mid shot showing most of their body and face, which draws attention to the magazine from the celebrities fans, the title states the celebrities name which also draws attention from fans. The masthead shows you the brand of magazine and in this case, vogue, which is very popular also draws attention and makes you want to buy it.
The leading article is roping you into the magazine and telling you what the magazine in about and maybe what the brand of magazine is about.
The quote from the celebrity makes the magazine more intriguing for fans and anyone who likes the quote.
The colour palette is not bright more subtle to look at also more aesthetic.
MOJO magazines:
The artists are at a long- medium shot showing most of their bodies , they’re above the masthead/ name of the brand and magazine making them the main interest of the magazine Instead of the title. The colour pallet is dark and aesthetically pleasing matching the artists style and their music. Above the masthead is promoting other story’s/ pages of the magazine which is a common theme with the mojo magazines and like the second magazine the band is being promoted and their music is.
Both of these magazines have a masthead that states the brand of the magazine, the shot type of the musician is middle to close showing his shoulders up. The text is very crowded yet easy to read and presented well with the colours of white, grey and black also the occasional red to match the background. The colour scheme is very bold but not bright still easy too look at while having a pop because of the red. The magazine promotes the musician and his music

woman on cover
attracts men into rock???
all musicians on page are men- making a male musician stereotype
IDEAS
Madonna is represented as a goth and as the rock 'vibe' , we know this because the colour pallet is black and white and the texts are blue and red, she is wearing dark makeup and black lipstick.
this attracts the attention of rock and roll fans and men because of the red and blue pops of colour.
This isn't stereotypical for madonna as she is a pop artist which is more associated with bright colours, the opposite of how she is presented in this magazine.
language choices stereotype the 'normal male' using words like; "music junkie", "heroin", "pretty mouth".
- 5 mark question 2-3 well explained points, analysing the magazine and the stereotypes.
point 1: black colour pallet, dark makeup- attracting rock and roll fans- piercing and the cross
point 2: women- counter stereotype of a 'girl' linking to rock
point 3: more 'masculine' language (examples)
15 MARK:
compare two magazines
ANSWERS SHOULD INCLUDE:
analyse media language
make judgements and draw conclusions - how media language is used differently in both magazines and how it fits the different types of music / stereotypes.
EXAMPLE
the colour pallets on the mojo magazine are black and white targeting rock and roll fans , however on the BBC magazine its very light and poppy, using whites and the occasional white and the main image includes a pink almost mermaid coloured dress, targeting girls and older ladies into classical music.
the layout in the BBC magazine is very simple, easy to read vs on the mojo magazine its very packed in while also being easy to read it gives the page more to look at and makes it more interesting, showing the target audience is probably younger then the BBC magazine.
The typography for the BBC is very simple, easy again pointing towards a older target audience.
ETC- separate points and judgements, make ore points
CONCLUSION: the mojo magazine uses darker collars, a lot more text making the page better to look at and the fonts are a lot more interesting yet still easy to read, however the BBC magazine uses a more simple and 'boring' colour pallet with white and red ass well as the layout is a lot more spacious and easy to read with the simple fonts, concluding that the mojo magazine is targeted towards a rock and roll audience that is preferably male also to the use of language such as "heroin" and "pretty mouth", the BBC is a lot more simple and less interesting making it ideal for an older audience and attracting preferably females and people who enjoy classical music.

a platform for live music.
THE BBC WEBSITE
On their website they are representing both music that is popular among young people and new upcoming artists. Its very easy and straight forward to use as well as simple background colours such as whites and greys but for more important things such as different artists and sounds there are very bright colours that pop out and attract your eyes. The images used are very individual and each have their own mix of colours, it is fun to look at and especially for a young person it makes you want to click on it.
There is quite a lot of branding, each sound or music mix has the classic BBC logo somewhere on the thumbnail. There is loads of content on the website, including, all stations and schedules, different sounds and music mixes, back to school section/ seasonal section and all categories. It gives you everything you need and its very fun and really shows what type of audience it is trying to reach.
vevo is beneficial for the bbc because it is just another platform it can be listened on which means more listeners, it is also beneficial for vevo because they are getting some sort of payment from the bbc and the listeners. Its good for the audience because like the bbc its just another platform to listen to, it makes it easier and more accessible.

of the band.
The close up shots highlights her and the song that she is singing, she is on top of a car raising her up from everyone else ,
The low camera angle makes her the central figure and creates a sense of importance and dominance, the body language creates dominance, the 'punk/rock' hand gesture she is holding up shows rebalance and a passion for rock, maybe even connoting violence. reinforces the idea of being 'cool' and links to the song.
the use of real locations, naturalistic costumes, suggests realism and makes her seem less manufactured when compared to other singers or bands.
Wheatus teenage dirtbag
flicking her hair suggests a kind of stuck up attitude, so linking to what the actual song is about the nerd just gets ignored especially by the popular girl, it plays along side classic stereotypes.
camera work seems set up and steady, more prepared and professional compared to skater boy, recreates the idea of a classic american teen film, performance?
